Am I allowed to ride my bicycle on the sidewalk?

Return to FAQ Videos

Yes, the general answer is, in the state of Florida an individual can ride their bicycle on a sidewalk. There are limited circumstances or situations, often in a highly congested city area or highly pedestrian area, where riding your bicycle on the sidewalk may not be permitted. However, most of the time, you can ride your bicycle on the sidewalk. But just like one that operates a motor vehicle that has duties and responsibilities in driving their car, so do you, as a bicyclist on a sidewalk, have a responsibility to ensure that you’re looking out for motor vehicles, pedestrians and others that may be using the sidewalk. However, so do vehicles have obligation and responsibility to you to ensure that they’re looking for you when operating your bicycle on a sidewalk.
